The ‘Sexuality is Not a Choice’ booklet is written with the intention of assisting parents, families and friends to gain more understanding of concerns and fears many parents experience when a loved one discloses their sexuality. The booklet is produced by PLFAG Brisbane who also provide a range of booklets and resources with different focuses.

Writing Themselves In 3 is the third national study on the sexual health and wellbeing of same sex attracted and gender questioning young people in Australia. It highlights young people’s experiences of discrimination, as well as the protective factors that can improve their overall wellbeing.

It originated in the USA, and makes the point that without positive mentors in their lives, LGBT young people often can’t imagine what their future may hold.

Families like mine is a multimedia guide that offers practical advice to families of young gender diverse people, same-sex attracted and bisexual people, and those who are questioning their sexuality or gender identity. The guide was developed because research shows that family support can have a significant positive impact on the mental health of young lesbian, gay, bisexual or gender diverse people.

SSCA is a national coalition dedicated to helping schools be safer and more inclusive for same sex attracted, intersex and gender diverse students, school staff and families. Working It Out is the state partner in Tasmania. Check out the website for information about how schools can join the coalition and be supported to be inclusive. Safe Schools Coalition Australia is convened by the Foundation for Young Australians and is based on a model developed by Safe Schools Coalition Victoria.

From the authors of This Is a Book for Parents of Gay Kids, this website was begun in an effort to answer the many questions they were receiving from parents whose children had recently come out to them. It includes videos, advice, and resources, dedicated exclusively toward helping parents.

PFLAG stands for Parents, Families (and Friends) of Lesbians and Gays and is an international peer support group that has been operating in Australia for over 30 years. PFLAG Brisbane operates under the auspice of the Queensland AIDS Council. They have an extensive range of resources with information about sexuality and gender, most of which are targeted at parents.

PFLAG Victoria provides a limited range of resources, as well as having regular gatherings for parents, friends and families in Melbourne.
